Josh is a Marriage and Family Therapist working as the Chico Director of Higher Ground Counseling, a nonprofit counseling agency co-founded with his father, Guy Ascherman. Josh is originally from Northern California and holds a master's degree in Counseling Psychology and a master's degree in Public Administration.
For the past several years, Josh has provided counseling for children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families, working from an Augustinian philosophy of life, purpose, and change. Josh has successfully helped people overcome depression, anxiety, life stressors, parenting difficulties, marital problems, grief, and trauma. Josh is a Clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), and is also a member of the CAMFT, Chico Regional Chapter.
Josh actively engages in opportunities to increase access to, and the quality delivery of, mental health services including his recent testimony before the California Assembly and Senate Health Committees, leading to the unanimous passing of AB 191. Josh enjoys listening to (and playing) music, reading, landscaping, hanging out with friends, helping at church, and spending time with his wife and children.
